Life doesn’t get much better than having new experiences! It’s what holidays are all about. And having your feet in the sand with the Gulf of Siam just metres away whilst tucking into some excellent Italian cuisine at the Chaweng’s hottest all-day Italian beach restaurant is certainly a novelty. Welcome to a special place where the above comes true every day of the year – Marzano Pizzeria!
And it couldn’t be more centrally located, being just 200 metres down the lane leading to the beach opposite Starbucks at the entrance to Central Festival Samui on Chaweng Beach Road. Marzano Pizzeria is part of Malibu Koh Samui Resort & Beach Club and it’s well signposted.
When you get to the resort, it’s just another 100 metres or so through the gardens and past the bungalows until you reach the swimming pool to your left, the smart restaurant building to your right and the bright blue ocean beyond.
Come along in the daytime and you might want to sit inside in the shade where there’s seating for 40 in view of the open-kitchen and wood-fired pizza oven. It’s light and airy in here, with smart wooden tables and chairs spaciously
arranged, a typical Italian-style blackboard on the wall presenting the daily specials. And there’s even a row of barstools facing directly onto the beach and the ocean beyond. Sandwiches and burgers are amongst the main menu items and these prove popular daytime choices for lunch.
But if you arrive in the evening, weather permitting, most diners prefer to go for one of the tables that are set up amongst the beach lanterns on the sand itself. There are even beanbags available should you want to have a lounge and
really relax with a drink or two after.
Overhead coconut palm trees and the sound of the nearby surf mixed with the medium-tempo music set the scene and then it’s the fun part – ordering the food. But before I talk about the fabulous Italian fare on offer, I will mention the fact that there’s also a full Thai cuisine menu available – after all, there’s always one member of a group/couple who insists on eating the local food every single night so Marzano will keep them happy too with the nation’s most renowned dishes!
Ever-popular starters include Marzano’s unique interpretation of the classic Rocket Salad with apple and toasted almonds, and everybody’s favourite, the Bruschetta Tomato and salad with olive oil. Let’s face it – an Italian meal can’t
start off properly without at least one of them!
Pasta next, and that comes in the form of either spaghetti or penne. Freshly-prepared, all the dishes are delicious but the Marinara with its mussels, prawns, squid and San Marzano tomato sauce, and the Aglio Olio Bacon with virgin olive
oil, bacon, garlic and dried chili come recommended by the chef himself so they should be extra-tasty.
And having the word ‘pizzeria’ in its name should give you a clue as to what the house specialty is here! Homemade bases, a state-of-the-art wood-fired pizza oven and highly trained chefs all play their individual roles in producing
some of the tastiest pizzas you’ll ever have (they’re also available for takeaways). Two of the finest being the amazing Pizza Diavola comprising spicy salami, San Marzano tomato sauce, Parmesan, fresh mozzarella, rocket and chili oil, and the fabulous Pizza Margherita with its San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, virgin olive oil and basil. There’s even an ever-changing daily special pizza with a Thai-cuisine topping – a perfect way to blend two tastes in one!
“…and there’s even an ever-changing daily special pizza with a Thai-cuisine topping!”
And whilst you’re in the pizza mood, you may well want to try one of Marzano’s renowned pizza desserts, namely the Pizza Nutella and the Pizza Strawberry. Their respective sweet toppings more than balance the savoury crusts beneath, creating a winning combination every time. Another popular sweet dish to finish off the Samui Italian beach experience is everyone’s tropical favourite – the Banana Split. And this one comes with three scoops of homemade ice-cream (choose between vanilla, strawberry, coconut and chocolate flavours).
A full wine and drinks list complete with a wide range of cocktails & mocktails and fruit juices & smoothies rounds off the food & beverages on offer. But the final comment must be about the friendliness of each and every member of the staff at Marzano Pizzeria – nothing is too much trouble here and there’s a genuine smile on their faces at all times. And it’s things like that that turn a regular night’s dining into a memorable one. That and great food at unbelievably reasonable prices, that is. And that’s why this restaurant is definitely recommendable for those seeking an Italian beach-dining experience in Chaweng.
Marzano Pizzeria is open from 7:00 – 10:00 am for breakfast, from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm for lunch and from 4:00 pm for dinner with the kitchen closing at 10:00 pm.
